The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is located on a 54 acre campus in West Hartford, Connecticut. It is a residential and day program operating as a state-aided private school. It was established in 1817 as the first permanent school for the deaf in America. The current service load is approximately 215. The program is a comprehensive center-based and community-based educational program serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students from preschool through high school, and adult service program, utilizing a total communication philosophy. The American School for the Deaf is accredited by the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs Serving the Deaf, the Departments of Education in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Sign Languages Services Program Manager, teaches sign language to community participants and ASD staff in the on-campus community sign language classes. For more information about the classes, click on: http://www.asd-1817.org/page.cfm?p=664
(a) Assists with the development of curriculum, course content, and material development.
(b) Networks with other staff and uses a variety of resources in teaching and helping people make connections.
(c) Keeps attendance of class participants and provides evaluation forms for class assessment.
Advanced to Superior ASL skills required. The ability to work as a team member. Background in early childhood development and education. ASL teaching experience preferred.
